Noted author and lecturer Lester Laminack met with PHS faculty and staff this month and began with a discussion of how teachers and students can conduct effective conversations. Offering ten tips for conversational competence, he emphasized the top two: Listen, and Be Brief. Dr. Laminack followed by sharing methods for strengthening students’ reading comprehension in chapter books, including increasing vocabulary used in the book, understanding the culture in which the book is set, and perhaps most importantly, studying children’s picture books on the same subject as the chapter book!
Mr. Laminack then spent the week visiting each classroom with a great lesson, each unique to the grade level.
We always enjoy having Mr. Laminack on campus and all the wisdom he brings!
