Math - Enrichment

hmetzler@peninsulaheritage.org

I was born and raised in Los Angeles. After attending parochial schools, I attended USC and earned a B.A. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Operations Research. My first years in the job market landed me at JPL and The Aerospace Corporation working on spacecraft and satellite programs. I then moved to IBM where I worked in marketing as a systems engineer. I retired to raise a family. As I volunteered in my daughters’ schools, I discovered that working with students sparked my interest in teaching, and I returned to school to pursue that interest. In 2001, I received a teaching credential in math from CSUDH after student teaching at Torrance High School.

This new career has been a rewarding experience. I have been teaching 8 years and look forward to my sixth year at P.H.S. Where else could I find a wonderful group of staff members to work with as well as opportunities to learn and share my love of math? It is satisfying to me to find creative ways to make learning math fun while providing a solid foundation for my students.

I live in Rancho Palos Verdes with my husband Roger and have two daughters who are both in college. I continue to enjoy volunteering, traveling, dancing, and spending time with family and friends.
